In the ultra-pure water production industry, DuPont AmberLite™MB20 (formerly Rohm and Haas MB20) pre-mixed polishing resin is a widely circulated consumable across the global market. It is extensively used in applications such as semiconductors, photovoltaics, pharmaceuticals, laboratory water purification, and boiler polishing treatment. Many foreign trade professionals in the water treatment sector frequently ask the same question: can this resin be exported directly?

Genuine brand-new original DuPont MB20 resin for civilian water treatment purposes can be exported normally provided all compliance requirements are met. Overseas buyers also need to be cautious to avoid counterfeit or regenerated refurbished resin.

There are two major sources of DuPont MB20 resin available on the market, with vastly different compliance status for export:

1. Brand-new original stock imported and warehoused via ordinary trade, complete with import customs declarations, DuPont original test certificates and other quality documents. It comes in the standard factory 25L sealed packaging. With a full set of supporting documents, this is the safest supply for export, carrying low inspection risks and gaining high recognition during customs clearance overseas.

2. Imitation DuPont MB20 products made from domestically recovered spent resin, self-regenerated, refurbished and repackaged in bulk. These are not genuine new DuPont products, and their composition and purity cannot meet original factory specifications. Most countries impose strict solid waste controls on waste and regenerated ion exchange resins. If identified as recycled waste at the destination port, the cargo may be detained or ordered returned. Exporters will be liable for detention charges and fines, and may even violate China’s regulations on solid waste export. This is a critical risk to avoid when accepting export orders.

Apart from customs compliance in China, customs clearance requirements at the destination country must not be overlooked. DuPont MB20 is not classified as a hazardous chemical and can be shipped by sea or air. Standard export documents include commercial invoices, packing lists, sales contracts, original SDS and COA certificates. Admission standards vary by region: many countries in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America require certificates of origin for tariff reduction and customs review. For the EU, Australia and other regions, chemical labels and SDS documents must comply with local GHS standards and be marked in the official local language. Failure to check local chemical registration and entry filing requirements in advance may result in cargo being held up at the port, incurring substantial extra costs.
